16th Blood Donation Campaign

He pointed this while attending the 16th Blood Donation Campaign organized by the Society of the Disabled Persons Penang. He mentioned that the building structure of the Penang General Hospital is old, recently the hospital is upgrading the toilets so that it would become more disabled friendly. 

He also assured that all new buildings will have disabled friendly facilities including disabled friendly toilets and parking lots.

He urged and invited the general public to go to his office at Komtar at any time to give valuable suggestions to him.

Teh Lay Kuan, president for the Society of the Disabled Persons Penang urged the society to focus on the ability of an individual rather than focusing on the disability of an individual.

She mentioned that there are 2 key points about the theme for The International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2015. One is about the access on various fields for people with disabilities. The second is about empowerment for people with disabilities to make use of various opportunities to have a more equal life.

“In Malaysia people with disabilities still face many barriers to inclusion in many key aspects of society mainly due to a lot of facilities are yet to be disabled friendly. As a result they do not enjoy equal access to areas such as transportation, education, employment as well as social participation. Some in the society even have biased views towards the disabled.”

Therefore she hoped that the federal government, the state government and all the authorities concerned could do more to address the access and empowerment aspects for people with disabilities. Hopefully this would enable people with disabilities to live an equal life similar to most of the abled people.

The Youth Wing of Un Khuay Hoay Kuan Penang helped to raise RM 2000 for the Society of the Disabled Persons Penang. The chief of the the Youth Wing of Un Khuay Hoay Kuan Penang Lim Chin Eng also attended the campaign.
