On current issue, the President of
SDPP Madam Teh Lay Kuan pointed out that it is a sad thing that most
of the insurance companies do not entertain the disabled when it
comes to Medical Insurance.
She informed that it is disheartening and unjustified but true when it comes to medical insurance proposals, the disabled are always being turned down by the insurance companies. With the upbeat theme of ˇ°Caring Society and Social Responsibilitiesˇ±, she believed that insurance companies do have their part to play in this area of advocacy. She re-emphasized that the disabled are also human beings who are also prone to illnesses, thus, there is this imminent needs for the disabled to be insured medically. Therefore, on behalf of the Society of the Disabled Persons Penang, she would like to appeal to all insurance companies to consider the disabled when they sign up proposals for medical insurance. The SDPP also expressed their gratitude and thanks to the Penang State government and all relevant authorities for moving ahead to help and assist the disabled and the under-privileged in Penang. YB Phee Boon Poh, State EXCO Member, who attended the dinner, said that regarding the medical insurance matter brought up by SDPP, it was the rights of the relevant federal finance department. Nevertheless he would reflect the matter to the MP so that it could be brought up in the parliament.
